What is Yoga
The sanskrit word for yoga is “yuj, which means to “yolk” or “unite.” Yoga is the practice of uniting mind, body, and spirit through the breath.
There are 8 limbs of hatha yoga, which include the Yamas (external values), Niyamas (internal values), Asana (poses), Pranayama (breath control), Pratyhara (withdrawal of the senses), Dharana (concentration), Dhyana (meditation), and Samadhi (enlightenment).

Why Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra literally means “yogic sleep,” as it is essentially a state of dynamic conscious sleep with a trace of inner awareness. a systematic method of inducing complete relaxation by removing muscular, mental, and emotional tensions caused by the stressors of daily life.
Yoga nidra is unique to other forms of meditation because it enables us to tap into our own intuition, self-knowledge, creativity, and problem-solving. Essentially yoga nidra teaches us how to look within ourselves for the answers to all problems.

Often described as a “magic prescription” for stress and sleep, Yoga Nidra has been shown to support relief from anxiety, insomnia, depression, chronic pain, and stress. Research suggests that one hour of practice may offer benefits comparable to four hours of restorative sleep.
Yoga Circle Classes
Yoga Circle is a yoga and mindfulness program I founded in 2014 to support teenage girls in navigating adolescence with greater awareness, resilience, and self-trust. Through yoga, meditation, breathwork, journaling, and group sharing, teens are guided to connect with their bodies, emotions, and inner wisdom in a safe, supportive space.
Teenagers are often navigating competing pressures from peers, family, media, and culture - making the question of “Who am I?” especially important during adolescence.
Research shows that regular yoga practice can support teens in reducing anxiety, depression, and insomnia, while increasing body awareness, confidence, focus, emotional regulation, and resilience. For adolescent girls in particular, yoga has also been linked to improved self-esteem, body image, and healthy coping strategies for stress.
I’m excited to be bringing back my Yoga Circle Workshop for Calm and Confidence on Sunday, April 26th, 2026. Click below to learn more.
My Yoga Story
As my practice deepened, I moved from dynamic vinyasa into more restorative and meditative practices, including restorative yoga, meditation, and yoga nidra - modalities that profoundly regulate the nervous system and restore balance to body, mind, and spirit.
In 2012, I completed my 200-hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Training at Aloha Yoga Kula, followed by Restorative Yoga Teacher Training in 2014 at Open Space Yoga. I also studied Yoga Nidra with Rod Stryker, along with ongoing meditation practices that transformed my understanding of the mind–body connection.
I have since taught vinyasa, restorative, and yoga nidra at studios including Aloha Yoga Kula, Open Space Yoga, and Lululemon, as well as in schools and community spaces across Oʻahu. My work has included private family sessions, student and faculty classes at Punahou School, and the creation of Yoga Circle - a program for teenage girls - and a restorative space in the Academy at Punahou designed for students and faculty to pause, rest, and reset during the school day.
I first discovered vinyasa yoga in 2008 during a difficult breakup. What began as a hesitant exploration quickly became a turning point - yoga helped me slow my breath, quiet my mind, strengthen my body, and release my need for control. I still remember lying in savasana in tears, learning for the first time how to soften, surrender, and allow emotions to move through me.
